Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey

Medihoney Antibacterial Honey is a standardised antibacterial honey, predominantly Leptospermum sp., selected for its unique wound cleaning and antibacterial barrier properties. The dressing will form a soft gel when in contact with wound exudate. It is because Medihoney Honey is a non-adherent, natural dressing that it is able to reduce trauma and pain at dressing changes.

Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey is a topical preparation which contains 100% Medihoney Antibacterial Honey and can be used for both chronic and acute wound care. It is proven to be clinically effective for:
Providing a moist wound healing environment.
Protecting the wound by creating a carrier against wound pathogens including antibiotic resistant strains.
Reducing the risk of infection from bacteria.
Rapidly removing malodour.

Which type of wounds can I treat?
Sinus wounds and deep wounds.
Infected and malodorous wounds.
Sloughly and necrotic wounds.
Also ideal for general First Aid such as cuts, scratches, abrasions and superficial burns or you can use Medihoney Antibacterial Wound Gel.

How to Use Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey:
Protect wound edges with Medihoney Barrier Cream.
Apply the honey directly to the base of the wound, avoiding direct contact between the wound and the nozzle of the tube.
The honey can also be applied into deep wound cavities or soaked into a suitable dressing.
Ensure that the Medihoney is in full contact with the base of the wound - approximately 3mm thickness (1/4 inch).
Apply more if wound fluid is present.
A suitable non-adherent sterile pad or dressing should be applied to cover the honey.
The dressing should be sufficiently absorbent to manage wound fluid.
Medihoney Antibacterial Medical Honey can be left in the wound for up to 7 days dependent on the amount of fluid present.
The dressing should be changed when it is saturated with wound fluid or if the cover dressing is leaking.

Contraindications:
Do not use on individuals who have had an allergic reaction to honey.
Use within 4 months of opening.

Please note:
The wound may appear larger in size and depth as dead tissue is cleaned away.
This increase should be followed by an improved appearance of the wound.
